SAFETY RECALL Drive Bed Assist Handles and Bed Assist Rail

Dear Distributor/Retailer/Re-seller:

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) and Health Canada, Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare (“Drive”) is voluntarily recalling certain Bed Assist Handles and a Bed Assist Rail, which Drive distributed between October 2007 through June 2021. When attached to an adult's bed, users can become entrapped within the bed assist handle or rail or between the handle/rail and the side of the mattress. This poses a serious entrapment hazard and risk of death by asphyxiation.  Drive is providing consumers with a refund based on the model purchased.

The recall is scheduled to be announced by CPSC and Health Canada on December 6, 2021.

This recall involves the four Drive models listed in the chart and pictured below.  The name “Drive” and the model number are printed on a label located on the product’s metal tubing.

What you should do:

1.  Please immediately stop selling the recalled Bed Assist Handles and Bed Assist Rail and remove any online listings offering the products for sale.  If you have any recalled units in your possession or custody, please immediately quarantine, segregate, and conspicuously identify such units as recalled.

Note: It is a violation of federal law for any retailer/distributor to sell, offer for sale, or distribute any product covered by this recall.

2. On December 6, 2021, please display the attached recall poster at brick-and-mortar stores at which the recalled Bed Assist Handles and/or Bed Assist Rail were sold.  CPSC requires that the posters be displayed for at least 120 days.  In addition, CPSC requests that, to the extent possible, please post the recall on your website and post a link to CPSC’s recall press release on your social media platforms.

3.  On or after December 6, 2021, please send the attached CPSC-approved recall notice to all consumers to whom you sold the recalled Bed Assist Handles and/or Bed Assist Rail and for whom you have contact information. Please use only the approved recall notice.  Please let us know once you have notified your affected customers. If you unable or unwilling to notify such customers, please provide us the necessary contact information so that we can notify them.

4.  Any recalled units remaining in inventory must be destroyed.  Please contact us at (877) 467-3099 or [email protected] before destroying the units.  You must render the units unusable and provide Drive with the number of units destroyed, the method of destruction, and proof of destruction.

5. If consumers contact you directly, please ask them to visit the recall website at www.recallrtr.com/bedhandles or call (877) 467-3099 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.  CPSC’s recall announcement will be available on its website at http://www.cpsc.gov.
